Safety

Over the past 5 years, Italy Music Camp has developed into a world-renowned institution in the heart of a world-class city. Being situated in one of Italy's most historic and dynamic towns, presents students, faculty, and staff with the prospects of a vast array of cultural, academic, and musical offerings.

With this in mind, Italy Music Camp is committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for the study of music and culture. In keeping with that goal, this school continually revises existing policies and procedures to reflect today's security and safety issues.

While we are dedicated to maintaining our campus as a safe, secure, and welcoming place to live and learn, a truly safe environment can only be achieved with everyone's active participation in the process.

We know that our internal community education and awareness efforts make a significant difference in providing a broad range of security and comfort for our community.

-F.A.Q.

What is the Italy Music Camp/Musica Vesuviana Festival?

The Italy Music Camp/ Musica Vesuviana Festival  offers students from the US and Italy a unique educational experience.  Located in the beautiful city of San Marco di Castellabate,  on Italy's famed Amalfi coast,  http://www.fondazionepassarelli.it/  Musica Vesuviana affords students a unique musical and cultural experience.  When compared to other camps available to American high school students, Musica Vesuviana truly stands alone in its offerings.

Where does the festival take place?

Students will be taught and housed at the beautiful Fondazione Passarelli in San Marco di Castellabate, Salerno, Italy. http://www.fondazionepassarelli.it/.

The Fondazione is a stunning facility which offers three delicious meals a day, private beach, pool, tennis and soccer fields, practice rooms and very spacious bedrooms with private bathrooms.

Who is the ideal candidate for this music camp?

Any student who is interested in music, whether it is Classical, Jazz, Gospel, Pop, Rock, Contemporary would thrive at Musica Vesuviana.  However, MV's appeal goes beyond music training as it also provides students with an immersion in things Italian: language, travel to famous places (Rome, Pompeii, Salerno, Paestum),a famous seashore and let's not forget Italian food!  Finally, MV offers students the opportunity to meet and make music with students from other states and countries.

Who are the teachers/supervisors?

The program will be taught by award winning, professional instructors (please see website: Faculty).  In addition to the teachers, MV has wonderful support staff to meet  the needs of all students.

What are travel arrangements to, from and during the camp?

Since we are based in Massachusetts, our departure is from Boston's Logan Airport where students are accompanied by all the staff members.  All flights and other transportation during the camp is included in the price.

{Students who must leave from or return to another airport will make special arrangements with the director before flight plans are finalized.}

Upon our arrival in Naples, we will be met by an air-conditioned coach that will transport us and our luggage to the Fondazione Passarelli.  The same coach will takes us to our sight-seeing and cultural excursions during the festival.  At the end of the session students and staff will fly back to Boston together unless other plans have been made in advance.

How is instruction organized?

Students are assessed to determine level of proficiency.  Lessons are then customized to each student’s needs and goals. Daily assessment will measure progress and determine areas of weakness/strength. In addition to individual instruction, students will be placed in appropriate ensembles commensurate with their abilities.

Group Lessons: These daily lessons will address topics such as instrumental technique (tone, articulation, intonation, expression, etc.), practice habits, and other related topics.

Ensembles will meet daily and all students will perform in a concert at the end of the festival.  There are also opportunities for solo and chamber- music performances.

Theory and Improvisation (for advanced students): Students will be taught music theory and how it applies to improvisation and composition. This daily class provides students with a basic understanding of chord/scale relationships and improved aural skills.

Master Classes: These will be lectures/demonstrations by guest artists on various aspects of performing, improvisation, composition, songwriting, and personal experience. There will be a wide variety of topics, and at times there may be group participation. Q/A and group discussion will encompass part of the class, providing students with an opportunity to explore the artists' opinions and strategies for success.

Special Lectures: Each day faculty will give special presentations that provide support for the scheduled daily classes. These special lectures usually involving faculty in joint teaching roles, focus on real-world experiences and music industry challenges.

Jam Sessions: These daily "after hour" jam sessions are informal playing and singing experiences.

Are students going to have free time?

Students will have plenty of free time for jam-sessions, sports activities at the Fondazione (soccer, tennis, etc), swim a the pool and/or at our private beach, shopping and more.

What is the daily schedule?

Perhaps the essence of MV is its unique schedule, which is arranged to provide a good balance between learning (both musically and culturally), socializing and local immersion.  It is flexible in order to help students who need more time while challenge those who are more advanced.  As you look over the comments from former students on the website, you'll soon see that the recurring sentiment from them is that they felt part of a large family that learned and experienced  together in an atmosphere of support, encouragement and last but not least fun!  (See typical schedule on website).

In what language will the classes be taught?

The classes will be taught in English. However, all students will immerse themselves in daily lessons of conversational Italian language taught by a native instructor.
